RE: Buying Class A D.P.

try right here on rv.net sales......I sold two of my units here and there's lots of nice coaches out there. Also you are likely to get a seller who is informed from these wonderful forums.

RE: Renting Out RV??

I like the idea that they PAY you as a driver to bring the coach to shows...that way you travel, drive and sleep in it and they get to be Mr. Big shot with clients and use the main part of the coach. If you couldn't do that then I would insist on an experienced driver (CDL) licensed to be responsible for the coach. Many of the country stars that lease the prevosts are provided a driver by the leasing company.

RE: Renting Out RV??

I tend to agree with the others, no way!......UNLESS......They put a HUGE security deposit down ($25K), pay for insurance that you get to pick with full replacement value (paid in full at the time they pick it up and not able to cancel) and even then I would limit the miles and start the negotiating at $6500 per month without mileage. When we rented years ago we paid something like .26 cents per mile on top of the rental fee and that was for a class C coach. This is a scary proposition...alot can go wrong with a coach especially if the driver and occupants know nothing about the systems. Think about a novice playing with your tranny trying to manual shift, not properly letting it warm up or cool down after use. Boy, the more I think about it I can't think of a number that would make me feel comfortable.

RE: Fort Wilderness dog policy outrageous!!

Stay at tropical palms in Kissimmee, no such nonsense, nice park and it also has shuttles to Disney and all the surrounding parks. Pool is nice but just make sure you get a super site (concrete) and not one of the grass sites in the rear. If it rains they have a tendency to flood.

RE: Help- basement door seals leak

Here is how my dealer and I found the leaking into the outer compartments.... Put a very bright light inside the compartment and close the door. Go under the RV and see if there is light showing thru along the seams of the compartment especially where they are attached to the outer wall. Repeat in each bay. We found VERY small amounts of light coming thru along the seam and that was enough to get the compartments wet when the tires throw up water while driving in the rain. I too thought it was the seals but they are fine. A quick and easy fix if that is the problem.

RE: Shut off the water when you leave for the day?

While at ocean lakes a few years back we saw a motorhome with water just POURING out of the exterior bins.....I immediately went to shut off the water for the owners and then knocked on the door. No one home! Several hours later when they returned I told them what I did and what I saw..........it was nothing compared to what THEY saw on the interior. From that day forward, I never leave the RV with the spigot turned on. Cheap lesson for me, expensive lesson for them.

RE: How loud is basement A/C ?

My Vectra has basement air and my first coach had roof air.......from the inside they both sounded the same and I thought the same from the outside. The basement air gets my coach a much more even "cool" feeling than the roof unit did and the big bonus is no water dripping down the sides of your coach. It also gives a cleaner roof line and less drag but I have heard they are more to fix or service than the roof units.

RE: "New" Tires Not So New

I'm sure the tire sales dealer would have had no problem ordering you a set from the manufacturer with the date codes you requested and then you would have to wait for the next shipment (once a month / every 2 months / once a quarter) or pay for shipping. Personally, I don't think a tire that has sat on a shelf out of UV and elements is going to make one bit of difference than one with a manufacture date that is 2 or 3 months old.......JMHO

RE: Is business that bad?

Somehow you all are not getting this......Im sorry his wife had a serious problem and he changed priorities.........but where is this the dealer or newmars fault!!!!!!!!! The difference between a "good" dealer and a "good" manufacturer and a GERAT dealer or GREAT manufacturer is CUSTOMER SERVICE! The problem was reported during the warranty period therefore it should be covered. Winnebago covered a warranty item for me 3 months after the warranty expired....a few phone calls, they saw it was my 3rd winnie product and simply said they would cover the repair.....that is why I will buy another winnie and why I go back to the same dealer. The guys wife had a heart problem........saying that doesn't take priority over any "toy" is simply cold!

RE: Would you? - do you? - why?

Watched the super bowl outside on the TV, cooking brats and visiting with the neighbors.......I love to cook outside and either the radio or TV are on when I do it....I guess I just don't see a problem with it at all. When your traveling for 8 weeks or more as we do in the winter we want to spend as much time outside as we can, sometimes we read, sometimes I sleep, and sometimes I just turn on the tube.

RE: What is the going rate on a new coach loan?

I find it interesting over the last 90-120 days that people are looking for unreal deals on MH and waiting to get an extra 5K-10-15K off and over the same period of time rates have gone up almost 1% so when they finance they sure got that extra 10K off the coach and paid 35K in extra interest charges........ If you have to finance better keep an eye on the rates because they are going up and will continue to go up as the fed raises interest rates to prop up the dollar and fend off inflation.

RE: What's fair ...

IMHO, I think you are very close....thanks for the detailed description it really clears things up. There are alot of really nice gas class A units that are new and can be had for 100 - 125K so you are certainly in the ballpark. If you are interested in foreclosure models try crankyape.com also look at craigs list. They are sold "as is" but I have seen some great deals there. The reason I get so passionate about these types of topics is that I have one of my dearest and closest friends who was the sales manager for Michigan's largest network of RV dealers. I feel fortunate to have an abundance of information from him (he is now retired after 30 years) and has explained exactly what I should pay for a new coach, used coach ect.....and we have talked in the last month about the current state of the MH industry. He told me what to offer on my vectra, which I bought new in '07, and after a few phone calls from the dealer and a bit of flexibility on my end we made the deal and I drove to Mass. to purchase the coach. His recommendation was within $1,500 of the final price. Simply put, I trust him and he has no agenda (like wanting to sell me a coach). CASH IS KING right now and that is a big plus in your search so the simple answer is YES if you search you can make the deal you are looking for. Just like the housing crunch, prices will go back to "normal" levels on coaches and many will be wishing they bought now. In fact, it is my belief that we will see less production in the next 3-5 years, fewer manufacturers and higher prices. Enjoy your search, to me that is half the fun but if you want to be taken seriously, tell them you are a cash buyer and use common sense in making an offer. There is plenty of objective criteria out there to use in this process you just need to look for it.

RE: What's fair ...

Like hershey said, its your money. We found our perfect class A, DW & I played "good cop-bad cop" she like it, I didn't. I actually walked out on the sales person twice. I offered 50% of asking price & we agreed at 40% off asking price which was 35% below NADA list. Remember, you are in control. I will stick with the 50% figure because it worked for bmerpaw. If you have cash in your hand so to speak you can get to the bottom line without a lot of BS from the seller. The NADA is a fat figure and is great in that many insurance carriers will buy us out at the NADA book price in case of a total loss. It seems some of you do not believe in driving down a stake early on to serve as a reference point. Again if they can smell money on you then you can have their bottom line within 30 minutes tops. Clearly some of you freely part with your cash with little resistance. If someone is selling into today's MH market gets offended then you are at the wrong dealership. If you go in asking about financing you are clueless about buying anything period. I would be VERY curious for bmerpaw to tell us what year and type of coach he got for 50% of low NADA retail.......No disrespect here but he is a new member with a total of 11 posts. In a prior thread someone "proved" to me that there was a coach out there for 50% off low NADA retail.....a 1996 beaver patriot with body damage, cracked fiberglass rear cap, one blown air bag and when it started the check engine light would not go off as well as scratched cabinet doors, worn sofa and a host of other issues they listed. That was a 12 year old coach sold as is and yep it was 50% of Low NADA and after looking at the picture the buyer probably paid too much! Maybe the original poster could tell us is he looking for a one or two year old coach or a 10-15 yr old coach.......that would certainly affect many of our opinions.

RE: What's fair ...

Low Retail Value — A low retail unit may have extensive wear and tear. Body parts may have dents and blemishes. The buyer can expect to invest in cosmetic and/or mechanical work. This vehicle should be in safe running order. Low retail vehicles usually are not found on dealer lots. Low retail should not be considered a trade-in value. A "pristine" 2 year old coach just isn't going to go for what the prior poster states. 50% of low retail is NOT going to happen so why even start there.

RE: What's fair ...

Today offering 50% sounds about right. Silly, silly, silly........offering 50% of low retail will NEVER happen on a newer coach and you will probably get the same respect from the dealer that your offer gives. Again, if your talking about a coach that is 1 or 2 years old, 50% is a pipedream.

RE: What's fair ...

It seems that it's all rhetoric. Three pages of replys and I really don't know any more than I did when I created the thread. So can anyone answer this question? If I find a used vehicle that's in pristine condition, has a low retail of $150,000 and has a posted selling price on the dealers lot for $150,000 what would your first offer be? If you want the coach I would offer $130-135K. to start.......The answer to your question is going to be in the research and when you start making offers.
